I’ve always been a bit intimidated by butcher shops in the city. I grew up on a hog farm near Stratford, ON, and I really appreciate close connections with the farmers growing my food. Often I get my meat by purchasing a full animal through a neighbouring farmer or family member and splitting up the purchase with family. Sanagan’s offers up a completely different atmosphere than any other butcher shop in the city. It’s an easy going place without attitude; there is plenty of variety and selection, and cuts and types of meat you can’t easily find elsewhere. I love exploring what Peter has in stock and buying a few things to try out for the first time. It keeps my meal planning interesting, and Peter always has tips for how to cook something I’ve never tried before. The prices are always surprisingly affordable (I also have the choice of shopping at a Pusateri’s and a Bruno’s in my neighbourhood, two places that are always insanely pricey). And I’ll never buy bacon anywhere else again. Keep up the good work Peter!
