Agri-Cube Grows Sci-Fi Vegetables

Natural is always better, right? I am definitely on that side of thinking but read up on the Agri-Cube, a hydroponic vegetable growing machine from Japan, and then let’s talk.

The Agri-Cube was developed by Daiwa House Industry to grow a variety of greens and root vegetables using adjustable fluorescent lighting and a water recycling system in a self-contained cube about as big as a parking space. The Agri-Cube retails for $70, 000 but it can grow up to 10,000 heads of lettuce per year for about 45 cents each, including the cost of electricity.

As I said, I think natural is always better. But when I stop to consider how many people something like the Agri-Cube could feed, I have to wonder.

What do you think?
