Natural is always better, right? I am definitely on that side of thinking but read up on the Agri-Cube, a hydroponic vegetable growing machine from Japan, and then let’s talk.
It’s rare that a product has me nodding my head, smiling, thinking and opening my wallet simultaneously. But the Porthole, a beautifully simple infusion vessel has that effect on people.

I’m sure that most of us, at one time or another, were told by our Mom to stop playing with our food. For some reason I don’t think artist, Dan Cretu, listened.
Some products, like a spoon or a fork, may have had such a good design to start with that they never needed an update. I’m not so sure a regular dish drying rack falls into the category.
In my mind, design and food have an interesting, if as yet unexplored, connection with one another. This exhibit by Premsela in the Netherlands is an attempt at that exploration.
This bottle was a constant presence in my Mom’s cardboard arsenal of sauces, spices and condiments. Who knew that such an innocuous looking bottle would have such an enduring effect on the world of design.
