Butchered Fabric

Slaughtered meat is the unexpected inspiration for artist Tamara Kostianovsky.

The New York artist has recreated butchered meats using fabric to give the impression of flesh, bone and fat. The fabric meats are hung on the wall in plastic bags or on large meat hooks and chains and have numbers drawn on with marker. They are made from embroidery floss, batting, armature wire but mostly from the artist’s own clothing. A knitted sweater and bits of lace are even evident.

The sculptures will be presented as in a solo show entitled Hecatombe at the Fondo Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires, Argentina in May 2013.
