Death Row Dishes

We’ve all asked ourselves that fateful question: If we could have any one meal as our last, what would it be? Its a tough one to answer and it’s always a toss up between Mom’s brisket and dumplings or the classic cheeseburger and fries.

Of course, we would hate to actually be faced with having to decide on a last meal but it’s an interesting idea that photographer Julia Ziegler-Haynes looks at in her recent series, Today’s Specials. The series shows the last meals that were requested by 24 death row inmates just before execution, from ice cream cones and Whoppers to a single unpitted olive, which Ziegler-Haynes dug up from the public records, carefully created and photographed.

After looking through the series, what do you think your last meal request would be? Would you go all out with tacos and birthday cakes or keep it simple with a cup of coffee?
