Do you think laser-cut seaweed will make your sushi taste any better? Probably not, but it does add another layer of creativity to the eating experience. That can’t be a bad thing right?
In an effort to jump start the sagging seaweed market for the Umino Seaweed Shop (a wholesaler and retail shop in Ibraki Prefecture), the ad agency IS BBDO developed Design NORI, a series of intricate laser-cut seaweed wraps featuring various symbols of positivity.
Now, I know some people frown upon the overly artistic nature of food presentation, because they feel that there is more of a focus on aesthetics than on the actual meal. But if the taste and the looks are done up right, where’s the harm? Thoughts?
