Food Truck Eats | Victoria Day

Nestled in the heart of Niagara-on-the-lake was the Victoria Day weekend, two-day Food Truck Eats.  The partnership of Food Truck Eats and Ontario Food Trucks with Peller Estates Winery – featured 16 food trucks from across Canada and the U.S and helping to wash it all down was 16 different wines from the Peller Estate’s vineyard.

So lo and behold we made the rounds: waiting in 1 hour+ lines, making some glutton-induced mistakes, and rating our top 3 picks was all in a hard days work while basking in the Victoria Sunday sun.

3. The peeps at Bonfire Catering know how to entice pizza-lovers with their impressive mobile wood-fire oven. Thankfully, Owner Yvonne Deveaux upped the size of her pies since the last Food Truck Eats at the Distillery, making the hour-long wait and order mishaps worth the perfectly browned, evenly saucy and cheesy pizza we devoured in 30 seconds or less.

2.  When you first read Blue Donkey Streatery’s menu you feel an urge to give up everything and dedicate your entire day’s calorie intake to their mouth-watering Mediterranean inspired dishes like the Fried Calamari or Spicy Sausage Pita. BDS is the creation of four Greek Canadians- Manny Tsouvallas, Tony Vastis, Dimitri Velonis, and Elias Vastis- who specialize in combining ordinary Canadian Staples with bold, distinct Mediterranean ingredients; see Gyros Poutine.

1.  If you dig Asian food or food trucks or just food trucks that serve, like, really good gourmet tacos then you’ve probably heard of El Gastronomo Vagabundo- our number one pick at Food Truck Eats. What Momofuku master chef David Chang is to New York, El Gastronomo Vagabundo is to Toronto’s food truck culture.  Our favorite plate we dined on was not surprisingly the fish tacos that were so tasty we made sure to double our order on the second round. Oh, yes we did.
