Real Refrigerators, Revealed

They say every picture tells a story and this is just what photographer Mark Menjivar has achieved in his photography series, You Are What You Eat, which shows what is inside various people’s fridges.

From meat lovers to vegetarians, the upper class to the underprivileged, Menjivar’s photos capture the identities of many different people through the food they buy and store in their fridge. It’s a frightening sight to see the empty fridge of someone who barely gets by and then one crammed with takeout boxes belonging to a bartender who is barely home. The concept is simple but Menjivar’s photos are a stark, unapologetic look at the different lives we live.

Menjivar’s photos also beg the question: What do you think your fridge would say about you?
