The Porthole by Crucial Detail

It’s rare that a product has me nodding my head, smiling, thinking and opening my wallet simultaneously. But the Porthole, a beautifully simple infusion vessel has that effect on people.

The Porthole, designed by Chicago based design studio Crucial Detail, can be used to create a number of infusions, including cocktails, oils, teas, dressings, lemonade, coffee, among others. It is made of precision ground and tempered Low Iron Glass, food grade Delrin,  food grade Silicone, and Stainless Steel.

Originally starting out as a piece for the Avairy restaurant in Chicago, the number of Porthole requests and thefts from the restaurant (!) prompted Crucial Design to take the product to the masses. Via their Kickstarter campaign, they’ve raised almost ten times the original ask. I’d say the Porthole has struck a chord – so imagine what it will do at your next dinner party…
