Tomato Bowls You Can Munch On

Apples, potatoes and cucumbers come in a package you can eat but what if our breakfast could be served in an edible bowl or our dinner on a palatable plate?

Diane Leclair Bisson thinks they should be.

Bisson is a Canadian designer who looks for ways to reduce waste by creating edible food packaging out of things like orange peels and quinoa for The Edible Project. One of Bisson’s latest edible food packages debuted last year at Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy, where she got together with Vito Gionatan Lassandro to serve local Italian dishes in bowls made of tomatoes – some crunchy, some soft, each one edible and delicious.

Food packaging you can devour instead of trash is creative and innovative but can it work for actual food product packing? Bisson would like edible food packages to be used in schools, by caterers and for fast food. What are your thoughts?
