This is an urban garden like we’ve never seen before, thanks to a smart concept and a clever contraption.
French designers Nicolas Barreau and Jules Charbonnet of Barreau & Charbonnet have built a window shutter that is covered in a small vegetable garden, creating the potential for urban agriculture to flourish in just about any building.
During the day the window shutter is lowered with the pull of a cord, like a drawbridge, so that the plants and vegetables can bask in the sunlight. At night the shutter is brought back upright to the wall, becoming a beautiful plant display from inside the home. The window shutter garden is not currently for sale but Barreau and Charbonnet are hoping to being able to sell it eventually so that even us city-dwellers will have a chance at a green-thumb.
